Time to head towards London!
03.08.2006
We headed to Sydney airport at 8pm for our 10pm flight on Cathay Pacific to London via Hong Kong. And of course check in luggage again - but thanks to Robyn and her contacts at Cathay she managed to get Steve and I an extra 15kg each approved - a life saver thanks Robyn! Plain sailing from here in we thought - um no, thanks to the Typhoon in China all Cathay flights were cancelled.
Not a great start to our new life we were thinking, but Cathay managed to get us onto a Mayalsian Airways flight to Kuala Lumpar with a 7 hour stop over. Pretty lucky given most people that were just flying to Hong Kong were told to head back to Sydney and wait it out, as all flights until at least the following arvo had been cancelled. We landed in KL at 4am so the airport was pretty much closed, but we found the Transit Hotel within the airport. They had no rooms available which was a bummer as I was quite looking forward to sleeping horizontially for a few hours, as 10 hours in cattle class is so over rated! But... they did have showers you could pay $NZ10.00 for. At least after a shower we felt a little more human again and the prospect of a 6 hour wait in the airport and another 12 hour flight didn't seem quite so ownerous.
Travel tip - if travelling through KL book a room at the Transit Hotel ahead of time, I am sure it would be worth it's weight in gold!
At about 8am the airport starts to open more shops - duty free is nothing like at home though. Mainly cigerettes and booze only. However I did manage to find a place that did reflexology so booked in for a half hour foot reflexology which was great after the previous days walking round Sydney!
