Farewell Auckland
02.08.2006
Well the day has finally come and we find ourselves at Auckland Airport. Now comes the time you dread when moving your life half way across the world when your only allowed 20kg's - check in! So we hatch a cunning plan andleave our cabin luggage with family and head to check in with our check in bags only. Hmmmm mine was 27kg and Steve's was 29kg so Steve got his trusty airport staff card out and we pleaded with the lovely lady to allow the extra weight without charging us excess, and as she said we had no cabin luggage she would allow it! Phew.....
Then came the part of the trip I was dreading more than the actual flight it's self I think. Saying goodbye to friends and family, it was bad enough saying goodbye to Oscar, and being a cat he can't even talk back or show emotion! Thank you to all that came out though it really meant alot seeing you there and I promise that by the time I made it to the next luggage check in the tears had subsided.
But yes another luggage check in - of course a new thing as I have never had cabin luggage weighed before. Your allowed 7kg - mine 11kg and Steve's 14kg, again over weight...... but you can take what you like on the plane as long as each piece weighs no more than 7kg. So we got a plastic bag and put stuff in that, and I just carried my cosmetic bag (most important bag!) and then we could go through. The queue at customs was long, and given we didn't leave too much time before going through we made it on our flight with 7mins to spare.
